The medical profession treats spectrum individuals based on control of symptoms. Most commonly, medical management is frequently weighted on pharmaceuticals. Drugs mask symptoms but may not address underlying causes. While medications may be necessary in some cases, the medical paradigm often sees success in symptom control. The chiropractic paradigm sees the person as a whole, which is greater than the sum of its parts. The chiropractic profession recognizes that when we see the person as a whole, which is more than symptoms, that we may have greater and longer lasting effect throughout life. Following this presentation, the chiropractic physician should have a clearer understanding of the goals of medical care vs. chiropractic care, how care from both professions can support the spectrum patient and why it is important to stay focused on the whole person.
